I can’t believe how quickly February went by! Even with the extra day we got this year. It seems like I was just figuring out everything I wanted to get done this month and now it’s time to start again. For the third month I present to you Currently! Brought to you as always by those brilliant ladies by Anne of In Residence and Jenna of Gold and Bloom.
Wishing – My grandma used to say “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.” I miss that lady! Well, if I’m going to wish let’s wish big. I’m wishing to hit the lotto. Not a crazy big one like we just had. Something nice enough to set us up in a house with a bit of a yard, a garage and space for a shop for Grandpa. Oh, and of course my dream studio. It’s two stories tall in the shape of an octagon. The upper story is alternating bay windows and floor to ceiling bookcases. There’s a beautiful yet delicate knotty alder and wrought iron railing encircling the library and the center of the second floor is open to let the light down to the first story. Outside half of the first floor is a wrap around porch. The first floor has nooks and crannies for all my crafting things and gets beautiful light all day. The floor is free from carpet. There’s a sewing area over there. That space over there is where I do all of my computer/Cricut creating. See this spot? That’s where I sit to draw. Of course over here you see my modest yet lovely yarn stash and right next to it is the needlepoint. Isn’t it pretty?
Craving – Sunshine. I need the sun! I am ready for spring and windows that can stay open. I’m ready to spend a couple of hours on the porch reading in my favorite chair. I’m ready to see my flowers bloom and I swear this is the year that I actually transplant those tulips.
Going – February was a banner month for thrift store shopping. I picked up some fantastic supplies for prices that make this frugal Nana very happy. I also picked up some various decorative/functional things for the studio. I love seeing it come together little by little. It’s a bit like layering colors when you paint. It takes longer but it’s worth the wait in the end.
Wearing – Layers! I’m wearing layers like crazy right now. As a former Oregonian I pride myself on being able to layer. The key to layering properly for the weather is being able to add and remove the layers easily as the weather changes. I was not sure it was something that could be taught but Grandpa seems to be picking it up quite well. Now what I want to be wearing is this adorable little number by Tina Givens.
Learning – How to use watercolor pencils. I have my eye on this fantastic set of 72 Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. The other day I showed them to Grandpa and he saw why they caught my eye. Even with the killer deal on Amazon (43% off at this writing) I can’t justify the expense. Grandpa then surprised me with a set of 36 Prismacolor watercolor pencils. Honestly I was completely delighted. The reason I was looking at the larger set of Inktense was due to the fact that the colors I use most aren’t included until you get into that set. With the smaller Prismacolor set I have most of what I need. When I couple that with the Crayola set I got earlier I actually have a very good range to work with. So the Inktense can wait for Santa.
Thanks again to Anna and Jenna for sharing these prompts!
Be sure to come back next month when the topics will be making, wishlisting, cleaning, posting and tasting. If you missed last month, here’s a handy link.
Until next time…
