The funny thing about creating a series with a theme is that it tends to rule your thoughts. I’ve spent quite a bit of time rolling around ideas. The nice thing is that I’m sitting around thinking about being grateful and the next thing you know I’m counting my blessings instead of thinking about creating art. I like to think of myself as a grateful person normally. Coming up with quotes for this theme wasn’t hard at all, just a visit to all those sayings I’ve loved over the years.
Today’s ATC is a collaborative effort. My dear friend (and unofficially adopted sister) Holly popped by today for a cup of coffee and to bring some sunshine to my day. Holly has been a serious blessing to my life. I add her to the list of artist friends who have inspired me. Holly helped nurture the seed of courage that started me on the road to painting. She’s a darned fantastic painter and her little doodles seem effortless when I watch her.
Today when she came over I handed her some paper and my water-soluble wax pastels. I gave her a few hints from what I had noticed and then stepped back to watch. This sweet little tree was one of her doodles. This was done (mostly) using dry paper and wetting the pastel before drawing. After it dried I went in with my trusty pen to add just a bit of detailing and of course the words. Originally I was going to go with “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” but when I went to lay out the words it wasn’t right. I ended up coming up with this, which I don’t believe I’ve ever seen before.
Still lots of work to do with my lettering but I’ll get there.
