I am new to being an artist. For years, I’ve longed to be able to draw or paint. I don’t know that I would have wished for it so much if I knew that it would take having a stroke to unlock the door. As someone who is new to stretching their artistic muscles, I find the process of learning how to get an idea out of my head and onto paper to be intriguing. And let’s be honest, often times frustrating. This piece was not one of those times.
The idea for this presented itself to me with such force that I had to abandon my hopes of getting any sleep in order to start it. Once I started putting it together it simply flowed.
I often struggle when putting together elements but for some reason, with this tag the pieces just seemed to fall into my hands. I had no idea I needed a little wooden bird or a button. Then when I was getting the ribbon to change out from the string the tag came with…there they were. Just waiting for me in the compartments I had carefully sorted them into all those months before.
The tag I had embossed ages ago when I was checking out the different textures on my Friskars texture plates. It’s been sitting on a shelf just waiting for this project. I’m just so happy with the way this turned out.
The flower…well that’s all my doing. I cut out some pieces from a page that I had saved out of a book I was turning into a journal. I love keeping index pages for random lists of words. The flower was the idea that got me out of bed. I didn’t even realize that I had been thinking about it. Suddenly not only did I know what flower I was going to use but I knew how to make it. I knew how I would color it. I knew that the stem needed some pen detail. It just…fit.
