One of the challenges to blogging is sorting out what you want to blog about. That’s just one of the challenges, but it’s a big one. It’s a question I’ve been trying to answer for several months now. I love creating and I love sharing what I create but how and what to share has been a question I’ve not been able to answer, until now.
I came upon card sketches one day and it was like a new door opened in my brain. Several years ago, I tried to get into card making. I gave up on it quickly after becoming frustrated that I didn’t seem to have the ability to create anything original. I could copy anything but that meant buying more supplies than I wanted to think about. I was so stuck inside the box that I couldn’t even manage to change-up a color scheme with confidence.
Somehow, upon seeing the card sketch I was suddenly able to break down cards to their elements and change them to make them my own. I started by making a few changes here and there to cards and before I knew what happened I was translating the ideas I was looking at into a mental card sketch. Now in my humble opinion, these should be called card patterns or templates but the world has already named them card sketches.
This first card sketch has one piece that is a little tricky for me to illustrate. You will notice that the card I created has eight circles on it but the card sketch only has six. The reason for this is that I cut two circles out of the inside of the larger circles but I could not find a way to illustrate that for you. One difference you will notice on my card sketch is that I provide a graphic with and without measurements. I provide both options on my card sketch because sometimes we all need a little help.
How you use this card sketch is up to you. If you’d like to change the orientation of the base card, add or remove some embellishments, use different shapes (triangles anyone?) or change the placement of any elements, it’s your card! Go for it! The flexibility is one of the things I enjoy most about the idea of using a card sketch to design. If you need a little more structure I’ve provided measurements but just like every other element in a card sketch, don’t let that limit you! I’d love to see what you create with this card sketch. If you’ve used this card sketch and would like to share your finished card with everyone fill out the Mister Linky below. I can’t wait to see what you’ve made!
Until next time…
